NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace checked in with the ladies of The View to discuss the hate crime committed against him ahead of last night’s Talladega race, as well as his recent push to ban Confederate flags from all events.
Bubba, the league’s only Black driver, said that he is extremely “hurt” that someone hung a noose in his garage stall, but admitted that he wasn’t surprised given the prevalence of racism in the United States. “This just shows how much I have to watch my back,” he said.
Bubba:
“I was hurt and I was sad that people would go to those measures. I wouldn’t say I’m shocked because we see the stuff that goes on in the world. This just shows how much I have to watch my back.
But it’s just unfortunate that it happened to me and my crew was able to see it and witness that....I didn’t know what to say or what to do. Obviously I’ve never had that happen."
I’m proud to be a part of the NASCAR family. Sometimes when you don’t really feel the support, you don’t really focus on that. [But] these times kind of bring back that positive light of love, compassion, and solidarity and unity.
